Indian culture has a long memory of saint and mystics. They made an important contribution to the social and spiritual life of this vast isle. The teachings and holy words of these great beings is a tradition that had been responsible for awaking the light of Knowledge in masses throughout the path of religion. They were successful to refine the social system from its off-bit religious practices that had intruded periodically in society. But most of the significant teaching came from the land of saints, Maharashtra. This land was the birthplace of many saints, but one of the most important of them all was ‘Sant Eknath’.

Sant Eknath was a very intelligent child, the evidence of his brilliance was acknowledged when he mastered the ancient scripted of Hindu philosophy at the tender age of eight. He traveled in hunt of truth like many other at that time from his village Paithan and became a disciple of Jandardhan swami of Devgad with whom he traveled the various holy pilgrimages and study the essence of Indian philosophy.

Sant Ekhan devotion to Vithoba(Vishnu) was so great that it gave him place in the ‘Great Quarter’ of the Vithoba’s Poets among the great saints like Jnanadev, Namdeo, and Tukaram. Eknath composed may text on spiritual philosophy like Ekanthi Bhagwat and Bhavartha Ramayana.

His writing had a powerful murmur of religious reform which put light on the injustices of untouchability and cast discrimination in various sections of the society. His speech had the power to hypnotize masses from every sect and creed. His simple words and clear thinking process showed people that path of god can even be achieved by a simple man by just being truthful to his deed and responsibilities.

It is believed that Sant Eknath attained the path of Gods home in 1599. To celebrate the teaching and writing of this great saint India Post had issued a Commemorative Stamp in 2003 on the occasion of his 470th birth anniversary.
